To consider and approve Minutes of the last meeting held on 22 October 2013.

RESOLVED

That the minutes of the last meeting be approved as a correct record subject to recording the attendance of Cllr R Drinkwater and Tirath Bhavra.

To receive a presentation from Lucy Chapman, Primary School Represenative on the provision of Religious Education at Sutton Lower School.

The SACRE received and considered a presentation from Lucy Chapman, Primary School representative on the provision of Religious Education at Sutton Lower School.

The presentation outlined the provision of Religious Education at Sutton Lower School and ways in which it was taught which included:

·         A faith tour of Bedford;

·         Enacting and role plays;

·         Creating Visual Displays;

·         Inviting visitors to the school; to talk about their religion;

·         Engaging with religious artefacts.

To consider work of SACRE and developments in Religious Education.

The SACRE considered a presentation from Jane Chipperton, Chairman of SACRE on the work of SACRE and developments in Religious Education.

The SACRE were invited to consider documents that were circulated at the meeting which reviewed Religious Education in England and Wales.

That the work of SACRE and developments in Religious Education be noted.

To consider comments from Ofsted on Spiritual, Moral, Social and Cultural aspects, September 2013 – December 2013.

The SACRE were invited to consider Spiritual, Moral, Social and Cultural aspects of Ofsted Subsidiary Guidance.  A detailed paper containing guidance in each area was considered and noted.

RESOLVED

That the Spiritual, Moral, Social and Cultural aspects of guidance from Ofsted as now submitted be noted.

To consider an update on the Development Plan.

The SACRE received and considered the Development Plan April 2013 – March 2014.

It was noted that Kathleen Eldridge would undertake to make a presentation at the next meeting.

That the Development Plan April 2013 to March 2014 be noted.

To consider Religious Education: Realising the potential.

The SACRE considered a document that was circulated at the meeting  which summarised Religious Education Realising the Potential.  The report detailed the following:

·         Eight major areas of concern;

·         Examples of effective practice in using enquiry as a basis for improving pupils’ learning, leadership and management in primary and Secondary schools;

·         Key Findings

Following on from consideration of the report the SACRE discussed the Religious Education Quality Mark and agreed that they be provided with information to advise of what schools are involved in the Quality Mark.

RESOLVED

That the Schools Intervention Officer provide information to SACRE at its next meeting on Schools that are involved in the Religious Education Quality Mark.
