RESOLVED

 

that Jane Chipperton be elected Chairman of SACRE for the municipal year 2014/15.

Appointment of Vice Chairman

To appoint a Vice – Chairman for the municipal year 2014/15.

that Councillor Mrs Gurney be appointed Vice- Chairman of SACRE for the municipal year 2014/15.

 

 

12.

Minutes of the Last Meeting and matters arising

To approve the minutes of the last meeting of SACRE held on 17 June 2014 and discuss any matters arising.

 

Minutes:

RESOLVED

 

that the minutes of the meeting of SACRE held on 17 June 2014 be approved and signed by the Chairman as a correct record subject to the recording of Councillor Versallion as being in attendance.

 

 

13.

Focus on Religious Education at Etonbury Academy (Middle School)

To receive a presentation from Jacquie Binks focusing on Religious Education at Etonbury Academy (Middle School)

 

Minutes:

 

The SACRE received and considered a presentation from Jacquie Binks,on the focus of Religious Education at Etonbury Middle School.

 

The SACRE noted how the school followed the agreed Syllabus and how the focus on value work had been reduced at the school.

 

Jacquie gave a detailed presentation on the charity work undertaken, including involvement with Food Banks, attendance at an event called ‘We Day’ and how this event made a difference to both the children and school in terms of values.

 

14.

To review the SACRE Development Plan.

Minutes:

 

The SACRE were invited to consider reviewing the SACRE Development Plan.  The plan set out the Focus Area, Frequency Time Scale, Key Impact Measures and Outcomes and Update Date.

 

 

During discussion it was noted that it would be useful to be provided with a Framework Criteria for awards such as ‘Gold Award’ which could be used as a tool for School Improvements. In addition it was suggested that Outstanding schools could be contacted to share their Good Practice in Religious Education.

 

RESOLVED

 

(1)       that the SACRE Development Plan be noted.

 

(2)       that the School Intervention Manager obtain guidance on the Framework Criteria for awards.

 

(3)       that the School Intervention Manager liaise with Schools that have obtained Good and Outstanding awards in Religious Education.

 

 

15.

Ofsted Handbook

To note information contained in the Ofsted Handbook.

 

Minutes:

 

The SACRE were invited to consider the Ofsted School Inspection Handbook that was circulated at the meeting.  Members commented on the usefulness of the handbook.

 

RESOLVED

 

that the Ofsted School Inspection Handbook be noted.

 

 

16.

GCSE and A Level examination results 2014

To note the Religious Education GCSE and A Level results, 2014.

 

Minutes:

 

The SACRE were invited to consider Religious Education GCSE and A Level examination results 2014 that had been achieved in schools throughout Central Bedfordshire. 

 

The SACRE commented on the increase of students choosing Religious Education at both GCSE and A Level  and the success those students had achieved.

 

RESOLVED

 

that the Religious Education GCSE and A Level examination results achieved in Central Bedfordshire Schools be noted.

 

 

17.

Spiritual, Moral, social and Cultural (SMSC) from Ofsted reports April 2014- July 2014 pdf icon PDF 79 KB

To note comments from Ofsted in relation to Spiritual, Moral, Social and Cultural (SMSC).

Minutes:

 

The SACRE were invited to consider Spiritual, Moral, social and Cultural aspects of Ofsted Subsidiary Guidance.  A detailed paper containing the guidance in each area was considered and noted.

 

RESOLVED

 

that the Spiritual, Moral, Social and Cultural aspects of guidance from Ofsted as now submitted be noted.

 

 

18.

Focus on the next meeting

To discuss and agree the focus of the next meeting of SACRE to be held on Tuesday 27 January 2015, 2.00p.m. Priory House.

 

 

Minutes:

 

It  was noted that the Chairman was in the process of liaising with the Islam leader for Key Stage 2 & 3 in respect of their attendance at a future meeting of SACRE.

 

It was suggested that the Secretary of the Religious Education Council  for England and Wales could be contacted to attend a future meeting.

 

It was noted that the next meeting be held on Tuesday 27 January 2014 at 2.00p.m, Priory House, Chicksands, Shefford.
