that the minutes of the meeting held on 3 November 2015 be approved as a true and correct record.

 

 

48.

SACRE Challenges

Minutes:

 

Members were invited to discuss challenges facing SACRE. 

 

The Chairman gave a presentation which outlined the following:

 

·         A new settlement – religion and belief in schools, living with differences, limited focus on key beliefs and ideas, little opportunity for open and challenging questions, little insight into the nature of biblical material, little diversity/reality of understanding the modern world.

·         Learning from the bible- confusion in schools about the purpose of Religious Education

·         A new phase of dialogue and development

·         Living with difference – community, diversity, shortage of well trained teachers in religious education and collective worship.

 

The SACRE were invited to work in small groups to discuss one of the following areas:

 

(1)Collective worship, pros and cons based on Christianity

(2)National syllabus for RE- is it advantageous to have National (3)Syllabus up to Key Stage 3

(4)Initial teacher training and CPD Qualification

(5)Purpose of Religious Education

 

The discussion groups fed back their key points and discussed the challenges facing SACRE.

 

RESOLVED

 

That the challenges facing SACRE be noted and considered again at a future meeting.

 

 

49.

Review of the Agreed Syllabus

Minutes:

 

The SACRE discussed the Agreed syllabus and noted that when the existing syllabus was reviewed it was undertaken as a joint venture which included Luton Borough Council, Bedford Borough Council and Central Bedfordshire Council.

 

It was noted that there was an agreement to review the Agreed syllabus every five years.  Plans to review the Syllabus would need to be put in place.

 

RESOLVED

 

that the School Improvement Consultant and Chairman make arrangements to start the review of the Agreed Syllabus.

 

 

50.

Final GCSE and A Level data for Religious Education

Minutes:

 

Following on from Minute no SACRE/15/43 of the meeting held on 3 November 2015, the SACRE now considered validated GCSE, AS and A Level examination data for 2015.

 

RESOLVED

 

that the validated GCSE, AS and A Level examination data for 2015 for noted.

 

 

51.

Minutes:

 

The SACRE were invited to consider the SACRE Development Plan.  The plan set out the Focus Area, Frequency Time Scale, Key Impact Measures and Outcomes and Update Data.

 

The SACRE noted the Gold Quality Mark that had been awarded to Gilbert Inglefield school and agreed that a letter of congratulations be sent on behalf of SACRE.

 

RESOLVED

 

that the SACRE Development Plan be noted.
