Request a Safe Official Crossing in Fairfield Park Near Lower School

We the undersigned petition the council to Create a safe crossing (such as a Zebra or pelican crossing) on Dickens Boulevard, Fairfield Park outside the lower school.

My 9 year old son was hit by a car while crossing the road at this location two days ago.

He will recover from his injuries, however as it is a raised crossing and not an official crossing, it is just not safe enough. And I fear that when it happens again, the next child may not be so lucky.

There are drivers who often do not obey the 20mph speed limit, and yet even for those who do, there is not a clear location they can anticipate slowing down to a stop to allow residents and children to cross.

There are also many parked cars along this road which does not help the situation, but would not be an issue if a safe crossing was in place.

The crossing in question is directly outside the school which makes the issue of even higher importance.

Although we have a wonderful lollipop lady immediately before and after school, this is for a short time and does not take after school clubs, breakfast clubs, extra curricular activities, weekends and every other moment of the day into consideration.

Fairfield Park is a family oriented development with many play areas, parks, homes and most importantly - children. Therefore there needs to be a safe crossing in place at all times.
