This alleyway is used as a major cut-through in both directions for people throughout Dunstable and the surrounding area.

Despite being between residential gardens and a residential care home, when it gets dark, this alleyway becomes a most forbidding route.

Although many incidents go unreported, nearby residents, especially users of this alleyway, have concerns that while this alleyway remains unlit when it is dark, it presents the opportunity for all manner of crimes and criminal activity to take place.

This is a long alleyway, and that fact may have presented the primary challenge for installing lighting when the estate housing and care homes were built in the late 1950s and early 1960s. However, technology has advanced to such an extent over the last 60 or so years. We are therefore confident a solution can be found to light-up this alleyway so that it feels safe to enter and pass through, especially in the dark winter evenings.
